The First Chronicle of Zayashariya: Out of Night

Author: Violette Reid

Genre: Fantasy/Horror

Publisher: Xpress Yourself Publishing

Release date: 2008

I had the distinct pleasure of seeing this manuscript before it went to the publisher and what a read it turned out to be! Out of Night is a unique take on the whole fantasy genre mixing biblical and fictional demons with members of another planet.

Night, a world situated in the Nether Realm, is home to cruel demons and other repulsive, sinister creatures. Queen Lilith rules this harsh world with an iron fist but she faces a rather troubling debacle. The queen is a member of the Council of Demons and their thirteenth chair lies vacant and in order for these demonic beings to walk freely amongst worlds populated by mortals, they need a thirteenth member. There is one however, who can make the Council whole and that is Zayashariya, Lilith’s daughter. But the attractive, black-skinned, being has other ideas and wishes to flee Night. Finally with the assistance of an old wizard, she escapes the hellacious world and the clutches of her unkind mother via an escape pod and lands in a place called Wilzasp populated by humanoids. When she lands, Zayashariya thinks that her troubles are over for a little while but in truth, they are only just beginning. When treachery, backstabbing and murder are the order of the day, nothing is what it seems in this gruesome tale.

Violette Reid’s, The First Chronicle of Zayashariya is without a doubt one of the most original novels I have read in the last seven years. As I stated before, it blends biblical demonic beings who serve the Dark Lord, Lucifer and fictional humanoid characters from another planet.
