Eragon is The Sunday Times best selling novel written by Christopher Paolini. This is no ordinary fantasy book however. Mr. Paolini wrote this book back in 1998 when he was just 15 years of age. Yes you read it right. He wrote it at 15! It is book 1 of the Inheritance Trilogy.
Eragon is a 15-year-old boy who lives in a little village called Carvahal. One day while out hunting in a place called, "The Spine", our young protagonist happens to stumble upon a purple stone and thinks that it will maybe buy him some meat for his family. But upon taking it home, he discovers that the item he found was not a stone but a dragon egg! When the dragon hatches and later grows, he learns that he and the dragon he names, Saphira, can communicate through telepathy. But it is through this link however, that Eragon discovers that he is a Rider and through Brom, a humble storyteller turned mentor, he develops his powers and fighting skills to battle the Shade, Durza and ultimately the quest to de-throne the evil king, Galbatorix.
Despite receiving high praises from the New York Times, Publishers Weekly and others important newspapers and even though Eragon is a good story in its own right, it’s not completely flawless. For starters, it takes far too long for the story to pick up and for one to delve into. This breaks one of the most important rules in writing: you must grab the reader’s attention from the start. In places the dialogue is unnatural and when Eragon speaks, he doesn’t sound like a 15 year old.
