Other characters, such as the nasty Leonius, are expertly developed. The second aspect of this book that works well is the plot. Meador fits this romance story perfectly into the era of Boadiga. She obviously knows her history and in some ways, the book serves as a time-machine warping us back to 60 A.D. and due to her rich descriptions and well-crafted atmosphere, it’s like we’re actually there! It was well researched and the author even manages in some parts to make the characters speak their native tongue, i.e. Latin for the Romans and Gaelic for the Bretons. The battle scenes, though a bit short, are terrific and suspenseful.

All in all, this is a cracking novel and if you’re a history buff like me and love a riveting read that’s difficult to put down, then you’ll enjoy The Centurion and the Queen. It’s a fantastic novel that delivers in every way and deserves to be read. Get it today and I promise you won’t be disappointed.
